Standing for Deputy Mayor and Councillor, Derwent Valley
Official announcement as an independent candidate for Deputy Mayor and Councillor. The communities of the Valley at the front of every decision — not only the new and shiny.
I have nominated as an independent candidate for Councillor and Deputy Mayor of Derwent Valley Council at the 2026 local government elections.
Nominations closed 21 September. Candidates were announced 22 September. I am on the ballot for both Councillor (7 to be elected) and Deputy Mayor.
Postal ballot packs go out from Monday 5 October. Votes must be received by 2pm Tuesday 27 October. Voting is compulsory.
I enter this election to be the Bigg voice in a time when the communities of the Valley should be heard. These communities must be at the forefront of every decision made instead of only making way for the new and shiny.
Through life and work in a family business I have seen first-hand the struggles many face. I am putting my hand up to represent people first — not a party room, not a donor list.
The Tasmania-wide platform does not change with the ballot paper. Housing, health, the river, waste and a wage that keeps up are the work whether I am on a council ticket or a state one. This contest is the Valley’s roads, rates, tip, pool and the standard of a council that answers the phone.
