Same pattern with food. Big talk about food security, then they make it harder for the people who actually grow it and hunt it.

This past year horticulture rules nearly knocked out backyard stalls, crop swaps and donations until people fought back and the Premier backed off. The exemption is still not in the regulation.

At the same time the government has not backed a simple Bill I wrote for Parliament to let licensed hunters donate game to food banks. Lenah Game Meats already donates thousands of serves through accredited processors. Recreational hunters are still blocked from doing the obvious thing with an animal they have already taken. Foodbanks are still short. Good protein is still rotting away in paddocks. What a disgrace.

You cannot talk food security out of one side of the mouth and regulate the backyard and the hunter out of the other.

Put the backyard and the food swap exemption in the regulation, not in a media release. Pass the game meat donation Bill this sitting. Accredited pathway for charities. No sale of donated meat.
